A well-fitting pair of glasses is essential for comfortable and optimal viewing experience. But how do you actually measure your glasses size? This blog explains how to measure your glasses size and why it's important.
Glasses size refers to the different dimensions of glasses that determine how well they fit on your face. These measurements consist of lens width (1), bridge width (2), and temple length (3).
A well-fitting pair of glasses not only provides better vision but also comfort. Glasses that press too tightly on the nose or are too wide can cause headaches, pressure points, and discomfort.
The correct glasses size can also affect your appearance. With the right size, you can accentuate and balance your facial shape.

Lens Width (1): The horizontal measurement of the glass lenses. Correct lens width ensures optimal vision correction and that lenses cover your entire field of vision.
Bridge Width (2): The distance between the nose supports of the glasses. This is important for ensuring the glasses rest comfortably on your nose.
Temple Length (3): Also called temple length, this is the length of the glasses earpieces. This measurement ensures glasses fit properly behind your ears.
Tip 1: Use a Bank Card
Step 1: Take a standard credit card or bank card. Standard dimensions are 85.60 mm x 53.98 mm.
Step 2: Stand in front of a mirror. Place a corner of the card in the middle of your nose. The card edge should go straight down.
Step 3: See where the card ends:
S: If the card extends past the end of your eye, choose small glasses.
M: If the card ends at the outer edge of your eye, medium-sized glasses fit best.
L: If the card ends before the outer edge of your eye, you need large glasses.
Tip 2: Use a Ruler and Measuring Tape to Measure
What you need:
A measuring tape or ruler
A mirror
A notepad and pen to record your measurements
Step 1: Measure the Bridge Width
Ensure your face is relaxed and your nose is in a neutral position.
Place the measuring tape or ruler on the inside of the temples, directly above the nose supports.
Read the distance on the measuring tape or ruler and record it.
Step 2: Measure the Lens Width
Hold the glasses firmly and place them in front of your eyes.
Use the mirror to ensure the glasses sit straight on your face.
Place the measuring tape or ruler inside the lenses, from edge to edge.
Read the distance and record it.
Step 3: Measure the Temple Length
Place the measuring tape or ruler on the inside of the temples, from the hinge point to the end.
Read the distance and record it.
If you notice your measurements don't match or seem incorrect, you may not have measured accurately enough. In this case, it's best to remeasure your glasses size.
If measurements still don't match, your face may be asymmetrical. In that case, it's advisable to seek professional advice from an optician or optometrist.
If the bridge width is too narrow and presses on your nose, look for glasses with adjustable nose supports or a wider bridge. If the temples sit too tightly, look for glasses with flexible hinges or thinner materials.
Clean your glasses regularly to remove dirt, fingerprints, and other debris.
Use a soft cloth and mild cleanser specifically designed for glasses.
When not wearing your glasses, store them safely in a glasses case.
A hard glasses case is best to keep glasses' fit intact.
Your glasses size can change over time, so it's recommended to remeasure periodically.
